Bill

It's so hard for me to want to jump right in and start writing about something that was so sad that happened to our family at the first of the year. Bill had been diagnosed with lung cancer in November and contacted pneumonia in January. They admitted him to the hospital with every intention of giving him some antibiotics, getting him feeling better, and sending him home. Well, things didn't really work out that way. I was already up in Logan with the kids to stay for a few days when I heard the news. I went to the hospital and visited with those that were there. They were very hopeful that day that we could get him home. I think that was Wednesday. Thursday was a different story. One minute we were hopeful, the next minute we were unsure, and the next we were devastated. We were on this roller coaster ride for a few more days. We took over a waiting room and moved right in. We tried to keep it pretty light in there because of the heaviness we were all feeling. We had some special experiences in that room and the spirit was there to comfort us. Friday night the remaining family was told to get to the hospital. Poor Julie had to drive in a snowstorm from St. George to get here. She picked up Rob and Brad along the way since they were the remaining children that weren't yet at the hospital. We all knew we probably didn't have much time left. My mom brought my kids in to see grandpa in the hospital. Ryker was a little nervous and didn't stay in the room very long, but we had such a special moment between Bill and Cooper. Cooper had just broken his arm a month before, so Bill was able to sign his cast. So thankful that he is able to have this special memory with his grandpa. Bill passed away peacefully around noon on Saturday surrounded by his loving family. It was such an emotional thing to witness, such a hard thing to go through and I'm just an in-law. I can't imagine what his kids and sweet Carol were going through. We were so lucky to be able to have him in our lives. He is someone you think of often and never forget! We know we will see him and be with him again!
